Statement
My work critiques and highlights the ways religious and mythological narratives have been used to justify misogyny and sex-based oppression. By reimagining these stories and their figures through a contemporary feminist lens, I reject the idea of female inferiority and challenge the systems that continue to perpetuate these beliefs.
My paintings draw inspiration from academic and neoclassical art. The classical visuals are used to create a sense of anachronism, and to invite viewers to recall familiar historical paintings. With the added modern perspective and twists, the narratives become subtly unfamiliar and provocative.
I encourage viewers to reflect on their own inherited beliefs, to trace their origins, and consider the impact they have on others. The work asks whether these beliefs uphold harm or help create a more equitable and compassionate world.
